Spotflux: Enjoy A Safer, More Secure & Encrypted Internet Browsing [Windows & Mac]

Sometimes, navigating the streets and lanes of the World Wide Web can be a dangerous and scary experience. Not everyone out there are nice friendly honest people so there’s a high chance of viruses, malware and people trying to steal your confidential information.  This is where Spotflux comes in.

Spotflux aims to make your Internet browsing experience a much safer one by offering you protection services for Windows and Mac.  The main service is an encrypted and secure connection.  All of your Internet traffic is re-routed through the Spotflux filters via a VPN tunnel where it is checked, and all viruses, malware, tracking cookies and other nasty critters are squashed and nuked.  This apparently slows your connection down slightly but the net profit is a much safer Internet experience.  This scanning is an on-going, continuous and real-time process.

Once you have installed and enabled the software, you don’t have to do anything more.  Just let it run and do its thing.

The software is available for Windows and Mac, with a mobile version apparently coming soon.

Features

  • Install the Spotflux protection software for secure and encrypted Internet surfing.
  • All traffic re-routed through Spotflux servers where it is scanned for viruses and malware.

Protect Yourself While Surfing Open Wireless Networks with Spotflux – by Netted by the Webbys

Someone once told us that using free Wi-Fi is the same as shouting everything you’re typing out loud. Which is definitely frowned upon at Starbucks.

With Spotiflux, a free download for Mac and PC, Internet usage is protected even when sharing a connection with total strangers.

Once logged on to the wireless network, flip on Spotiflux and browse as you normally would. The service encrypts your internet traffic, blocks malware and viruses, and hides your IP location to keep you anonymous.

It’s perfect for use in airports, hotels, and that cafe around the corner where struggling artists work on their novels.

They’re probably harmless, but better safe than sorry.

We are excited to share that Lauren A. Rothman is featured in Washingtonian Magazine’s April issue highlighting Top Women In Fashion!

Women of Fashion

Women who go above and beyond to make sure Washington’s residents have style. By Sarah Zlotnick

In a city that’s not supposed to care all that much about style, some women have done well by helping us with what we wear–and influencing how we shop. Here are some standouts in Washington’s fashion scene.

The Stylists: The services of Styleauteur, Rothman’s fashion-consulting firm, are multifaceted. One day PricewaterhouseCoopers might bring her in for a session on corporate style; the next she might work with a soldier adjusting to civilian life on an amputated leg. Between penning a column on political style for the Huffington Post and dressing government officials on Capitol Hill, Rothman has found a niche amid Washington’s blend of sophistication and practicality. “I work with people who are thirsty for a knowledge about why they should care about fashion,” she says. “And I love getting to educate.”

Article from SFGate.

BranchOut wants to beat LinkedIn at its own game: helping people use their social network to find a job.

Today, the company got a lot more backing to help it out. It announced a $25 million Series C round from Mayfield and other investors, bringing its total funding to $49 million in just over two years.

BranchOut isn’t setting up its own social network from scratch, but rather runs as a Facebook app. This lets Facebook’s more than 800 million users tap into their network of friends to look for job leads, recommend one another, and so on.

So far, the app has 25 million registered users.

They’re actually using it as well. Since December, monthly average usage has grown from 400,000 to more than 13 million. That’s mainly because BranchOut launched a mobile version of its app in December.

So does BranchOut REALLY think it can beat LinkedIn, which has more than 150 million registered users?

CEO Rick Marini thinks so, because Facebook’s audience of 850 million users is much larger, and includes more kinds of employees looking for more types of jobs.

“LinkedIn is a great company, and does a great job with 10% of the workforce” — executives and other high-demand professionals who make big salaries. “But the other 90% of the world is on Facebook. Those are the people we can finally give a professional profile to.”

He also thinks that the connections on Facebook are more authentic than those formed on LinkedIn. “LinkedIn is somebody I meet at a conference for 5 minutes. Facebook are my real friends and family, my support network. These are people who will go out of their way to help me get job.”

He now has a lot more money — and time — to prove his thesis.

Marini said that BranchOut will use the funds to improve its infrastructure to support its growth, as well as to focus on mobile with new native apps for iOS and other platforms. (The current mobile app is an HTML5-based Facebook app.)

“Out of our 45 employees, we have one mobile developer who does mobile. The mobile app was basically built on the weekend.”
