I’m pleased to share the news that NetKids, the product I introduced to you earlier this month, is now available in the iTunes App Store as part of a soft launch.

During this time, we will test and further refine our offering based on direct feedback from you and our consumers. This ever evolving product will continue to be improved and have new content and features added to it in order to deliver on our promise of creating the leading all-in-one place for kids to be entertained and set free to enjoy narrated storybooks, videos and activities featuring their favorite characters and friends.

Max & Ruby Bunny Bake Off

Additionally, I wanted to point to the recent success of our newest standalone app, Max & Ruby Bunny Bake Off. We introduced this app exclusively via the App Store last Thursday, and it is already receiving great great reviews and excellent support from our friends at Apple and from fans of the app.

Max & Ruby Bunny Bake Off is featured among the best new apps for kids and received prominent placement among apps for kids ages 5 & under. It reached the #1 paid app position for kids ages 5 & under and the #4 position among all paid apps for kids over the weekend, and continues to do very well as we head into the Easter holiday.

Since our company was founded in June 2012, we have worked very hard to make Cupcake Digital one of the most recognized industry leaders in children’s apps, with a mission of creating high-quality, award-winning products kids love and parents value.

Its name? NetKids™ Digital Entertainment Network

What is it? A subscription based digital entertainment network just for kids. NetKids™ is not only a place to find our library of award-winning apps, it also will be the premiere destination for the best in children’s videos, movies, e-books, music, activities and more.

Its promise? NetKids™ is a fun and safe place where favorite characters, superheroes, and new & familiar cartoon friends come alive.

Over a year in development and scheduled to launch in early April, NetKids™ is the culmination of integrating many of our strategic initiatives, including licensing, acquisitions, marketing, and technology.

At launch, the network will include over 75 of the best children’s media brands represented by more than 25 licensors. There will be over 100 kids’ books, with thousands in the wings that will be added on a weekly basis. There will also be over 100 hours of on-demand video. We will continue to on-board additional video properties, episodes and other content that will premiere weekly. All of this will be rounded out by fun activities that support children’s learning and imaginative play.

April has been a tremendous month for Cupcake Digital Inc. and I’m extremely excited to share our exciting progress you.

App News:

April has not only been our strongest month for App production, but we continue to achieve top ranking positions for our releases on major distribution platforms.

In fact, yesterday Wubbzy’s Dance Party, an App released only this past Tuesday (4/23), achieved the “#1 Paid App” ranking for iPad in Apple iTunes books in just three days.

April 11: Wubbzy’s Space Adventure / Wubbzy en una Aventura Espacial

This is a very special release since it is our offering to include both an English and Spanish version within the same App.  Kids, parents, and caregivers now have the choice of language with which to listen to the narration or read the story themselves.

This initiative not only increases the addressable market for our Apps, but also expands our marketing capabilities.

We are currently working on adding a Spanish version to a series of English-only Apps in our existing library across all distribution channels.

April 16: Animal Planet’s Hide and Seek Pets

Wubbzy’s Dance Party, an App released only this past Tuesday (4/23), achieved the “#1 Paid App” ranking for iPad in Apple iTunes books in just three days.

This is our first App for Animal Planet marking the first property expansion for our library beyond Wow, Wow, Wubbzy.

We are extremely excited about both the sales generated and the reviews we have been getting.  Premium priced at $3.99, this App has already already reached the “#3 position” within HOT New Education Section on Amazon.

Apr 25: Wubbzy’s Animal Coloring Book

This marks the debut of our new coloring engine.  It will not only allow us to create “stand alone” coloring and activity books for all our properties, but it will also be integrated into all of our new Apps.
Looking Ahead:

Early May: Fraggle Rock “Fraggle Friends Forever”

This release will expand our App library to three active licensed properties.

As part of the preparations for its release, I have just returned from the 30th Anniversary Celebration for Jim Henson’s Fraggle Rock in Los Angeles.  We have provided sneak peeks to several national media outlets. The feedback has been fantastic.

The App launch in early May will be supported by a significant media campaign in collaboration with the Henson organization.

In June: Strawberry Shortcake

We look forward to our first App release for American Greeting’s Strawberry Shortcake in June with great anticipation.

Strawberry Shortcake is an iconic children’s property and we are proud to be their licensed partner. This will be the fourth active licensed property in our growing App library.

Like all our properties, the launch of the Strawberry Shortcake App will be supported by a robust marketing campaign to increase sales rapidly.

Properties & Licensing Pipeline

We continue to make great progress in our property acquisition initiatives.  We are currently in the final stages of negotiation with several “A+” properties and will be making announcements about them shortly.

Continued Accolades for Cupcake Digital Apps

In addition to increased sales, the positive accolades for our Apps continue to keep pouring in.

We have received a tremendous amount of press with the release of our first dual language App, Wubbzy’s Space Adventure/ Wubbzy en una Aventura Espacial, both in online and traditional press.

We also continue to win awards from Famigo (a site that provides recommendations for kid-safe apps and content) and Appysmarts (a resource that helps parents choose the best apps for their kids).

Distribution Partnerships

One of the key stones of our marketing strategy is building strong relationships with our distribution partners.

Recent results of those relationships include:

1.  iTunes featuring Animal Planet Hide and Seek Pets and Wubbzy’s Dance Party in their New and Noteworthy section.

2.  iTunes also selected Wubbzy’s Pirate Treasure as a feature in a special “Apps for Preschool & Kindergarten” selection.

3.  Amazon also continue to feature Cupcake Digital Inc. Apps throughout their App store. Barnes & Noble is currently planning several “curated” mailings and site positions especially for us.

4.  New Position Paper Regarding Parental Guidelines for Children’s Apps

We are delighted to have recently published a new white paper based on an interview with Dr. Natascha Crandall, PH.D.  Dr. Crandall is a psychologist and educator with a special interest in enhancing children’s growth and development through the power of media. This paper explores Dr. Crandall’s findings on App use by children while also establishing a framework for the continuous improvement of our own Apps.

As part of the white paper we also included parent and caregiver guidelines for using Apps as a supplement to children’s learning.

Wubbzy’s Space Adventure, First in a Series of Spanish Language Enhanced Story Experiences

NEW YORK, NY (April 8, 2013) – Wubbzy’s Space Adventure, the first of Cupcake Digital’s popular enhanced story apps to give consumers the option of toggling between English and Spanish with the simple touch of a button, is now available on iTunes, Google Play, Amazon and for NOOK for $1.99, or as a free upgrade for those who have already downloaded the English-only version. It is an important initiative for the company to provide these story experiences for young children and parents who want high-quality apps in Spanish. By giving parents this choice, the company is meeting several objectives: supporting the needs of parents who want to experience the apps in their native tongue, providing a tool for bilingual parents who want their kids to practice Spanish and giving children a way to practice some basic language skills.  The Spanish narration and individually highlighted words in the app are designed specifically for teaching the basics of spelling and vocabulary and could be used to practice the language.

UnknownMaintaining continued growth and leadership in the evolving children’s application market requires maximizing the value of our products to serve parents and children.  In this paper, we discuss how infusing Common Core State Standards into our apps/games and conducting our business in a socially responsible manner contributes to building trust among our target purchasers and to our future success.

Objective:

To demonstrate how Cupcake Digital is maximizing its potential for leadership in the children’s app market by infusing its apps with educator-developed learning moments specifically aligned with Common Core State Standards (CCSS).

Background:

The Common Core State Standards will play a critical role in the education of America’s children going forward.

The Common Core State Standards Initiative is a state-led effort — developed in collaboration with teachers, school administrators and experts – to provide a consistent framework that will help ensure children are college and career-ready by the end of high school. The CCSS set the requirements for children K-12 in all academic subjects and provide teachers and parents with a common understanding of what students are expected to learn.
However, as the introduction of the Common Core State Standards is in its earliest stages, communication to parents about this new concept and what is means to their children’s education is not yet clear or sufficient.

Common Core: A Social Responsibility

Cupcake Digital is committed to being a thoughtful, socially responsible company that parents, caregivers and educators can trust. We believe that producing apps that not only entertain, but also help ready a child to meet nationally acknowledged academic requirements can only enhance our own potential for success.

The apps and games we produce are based on well-known, highly successful children’s entertainment media properties.  These delightful stories are adapted in the form of deluxe storybook experiences and interactive games.

The infusion of learning moments — aligned with Common Core State Standards – enables us to maximize the educational value of our apps and games.

Cupcake Digital has taken a leadership role in the curriculum-infused children’s app market by creating free, educator-developed worksheets and activities that supplement learning moments in the story.

While 47 states have committed to adopting the Common Core Curriculum by 2014, awareness of the initiative’s specifics and value is not yet widespread.

Cupcake Digital has identified a clear opportunity to help inform parents about the Common Core State Standards – in layman’s terms – in the Common Core Corner at the end of each app.  It is intended to help parents understand how the app is preparing their children to meet the CCSS challenges at school and what their children are learning through the app’s activities and the process of reading the app itself.

Infusion of Common Core State Standards: Serious Business

An example of how CCSS-aligned learning moments are infused into Cupcake’s apps is attached. (link to examples provided at the end of this position paper) The example shown addresses the infusion of English language arts and mathematics activities in Wubbzy’s Dinosaur Adventure.

Cupcake is dedicated to the notion that there is room for fun in learning.  While our apps are infused with the CCSS, we make the learning process entertaining and thoroughly enjoyable!

Example:

Three games in Wubbzy’s Dinosaur Adventure are specifically designed to help prepare children to meet the requirements set forth for Kindergarten by the CCSS.  The games illustrate how Cupcake Digital blends entertainment and learning in games that are fun and fanciful, while also instructive.

Dino Alphabet Game

Children are asked to drag the dinosaur over the trees to eat all the letters. As the letters are eaten, the letter name is spoken by the narrator so that children can make the association.

The Dino Alphabet Game supports the English Language Arts CCSS for the foundation of reading, which require children to recognize and name all upper- and lowercase letters of the alphabet.

Dino Numbers Game

Children are asked to help the dinosaur to eat all the numbers from one to 10.  The numbers are read aloud, so that children can learn to recognize them.

The Dino Numbers Game supports math learning by motivating children to count a variety of quantities and numbers. CCSS requires children to be able to count to 100 by ones and by tens.

Dino Word Game

Children are asked to help the hungry dinosaur find some words to snack on. A word appears at the top of the screen and is read aloud.  Below the word is a list of three words.  The child must select the one that matches the word at the top of the screen.

Dino Word Game supports the English Language Arts CCSS requirement for children by teaching them to recognize a list of basic sight words that make up the majority of text and are critical to reading.
